After the publication of the article “Creating Model Scenes – The Journey to Becoming an Advanced Model Collector”, it received a lot of recognition from model enthusiasts. Creating a “model scene” is a necessary path for advanced collectors and is a topic worth exploring in depth.
Therefore, starting today, Monster will use the mining scene created by French model collector Chery Denis as a sample to launch the “Advanced Model Collector Tutorial” series. The series will be completed in several installments, and I hope it will provide reference and assistance for everyone’s model collection and scene creation.
In the article “Creating Model Scenes – The Journey to Becoming an Advanced Model Collector”, Monster mentioned that “the number of model collections is the material basis for advanced collectors. On this basis, one can create realistic model scenes and take photos that are indistinguishable from reality, which is considered a higher level of achievement, giving a feeling of standing at the top and looking down on others.”
This issue will discuss the material basis for model scenes – as many models as possible.
Some friends might say that creating model scenes doesn’t necessarily require many models, right?Indeed, Monster has also seen many car model scenes and military model scenes, where a room has one car, one person, and one dog; such scenes are more accurately called “model bonsai”, emphasizing the idea of seeing the big picture from a small one.
This is the smallest construction machinery model scene Monster has seen, which includes 2 machines, 1 car, and a house.
A larger model scene has a factory building that is quite large.
Construction machinery models are usually larger in size. If building a scene, it requires facilities such as buildings, docks, and mines, as well as many auxiliary vehicles that need to work together to complete a certain part of an industrial process, which is also the joy of playing with models and simulating reality.
Below is a 1:50 mining scene built by French model collector Chery Denis, named “Lorraine Mine”. Let’s see how many models this mine is equipped with:

A giant open-pit mine scene requires 67 pieces of equipment and vehicles. Without a rich collection of models, how can one support such a stunning scene?
Each type of equipment and vehicle has its own position and role in the mine; none are superfluous.
Moreover, among these models, there are many limited-edition high-priced models that require substantial financial support. For example, RH400 and L2350, which are both several tens of thousands of RMB to acquire, even the mass-produced model RH340 that was priced over 3000 a few years ago now costs over 10,000, let alone a hot-selling item like Bucyrus 495HF (Syncrude).
Everyone, hold your breath and enjoy these powerful steel giants!
After seeing so much, do friends who plan to create model scenes have a feeling: should you have a purpose when collecting models in the future? Unless funds are very ample, you should invest your limited funds in models that can form a working team, to make adequate material preparations for future scene construction!
