1. Two Methods to Use Grok in China
Currently, there are two methods to experience the powerful features of Grok AI for free in China:
The first is to use the official website of Twitter/X, and the second is to integrate it into a chatbox or your own application via API.
Let’s go through each method step by step.
1. Using Grok via the Official Website
1.1 Register an X (Twitter) Account
An X account is a prerequisite for using Grok AI.
However, since X cannot be accessed directly in China, you will need to use some magic tools to access the official website of X (https://x.com/).
Preparations:
Magic Tools: To be solved by yourself. Overseas Email: You need an overseas email, such as Gmail, Outlook, or ProtonMail, as domestic emails may not be able to register.
1.2 Registration Steps:
Click “Register”: Find the “Register” or “Sign up” button on the page and click to enter the registration page. Select Registration Method: Choose to register using email or log in with Google or other accounts. Fill in Registration Information (Email Registration): At this step, enter your overseas email address to register. The only thing to note is the birth date you enter; make sure it is over 18 years old. Then follow the instructions to complete image verification and email verification, set your password and other information, and you can log in.
1.3 Using Grok AI on X Platform
After completing the registration and login of your X account, you can use Grok AI on the X platform.

In the left navigation bar of the X platform, you will see the “Grok” button. Click it to enter the Grok AI interface.

2.2 Bind Payment Method to Obtain API
Currently, the Grok API official does not provide a direct way to obtain the key,you need to bind a payment method first (previously it was not needed).
2.3 Obtain Overseas Payment Method
Like ChatGPT, Claude, and other large models, Grok currently does not support domestic payment methods. Therefore, we can use wildcard to complete the binding.

Open chatbox (https://web.chatboxai.app/), and click “Settings” in the lower left corner. In the settings page, find “Model Provider” and select “XAI” from the dropdown menu. Paste the previously copied API key here, and after filling it out, click “Save”.
At this point, the Grok model has been successfully deployed locally, and you can start using it for conversations (other large model APIs can also be accessed in this way).
2. Summary
Although the Grok official website can currently be accessed directly in China, it is still considered an unsupported region.
