AIGC stands for Artificial Intelligence Generated Content, which is considered a new form of content creation following Professionally Generated Content (PGC) and User Generated Content (UGC). Currently, it is mainly used in text, images, videos, audio, games, and virtual humans. Specifically, it includes:
AIGC generated text is mainly applied in news writing, structured writing, and style rewriting. For example, users can input a description or requirements for the target article, and the system will automatically fetch data and create content based on the instructions provided.
Technology platforms have lowered the barriers for artistic creation, allowing users to generate artworks simply by inputting textual descriptions.
For instance, Google launched the AI video generation model Pheanki, which can generate variable-length videos based on text content. In the released demo, Phenaki was able to create a coherent video from several hundred words in just two minutes.
AIGC generated audio has long been used in our daily lives, such as the voices in commonly used mobile navigation systems. A deeper application will be in the field of virtual humans, where AIGC can not only generate the voice of virtual humans but also create the content they speak.
The application of AIGC in games can be divided into two aspects: one is used for building scenes and stories, while the other allows players to create their own virtual humans using AIGC platform tools for activities like earning in-game currency.
Data shows that the development speed of AIGC was astonishing in 2022, with an exponential growth in iteration speed. Continuous improvements in deep learning models, the promotion of open-source models, and the exploration of commercialization of large models have become the “acceleration” for AIGC’s development.
In terms of market space, Gartner predicts that by 2025, generative artificial intelligence will account for 10% of all generated data. According to the analysis in Generative AI: A Creative New World, AIGC has the potential to generate trillions of dollars in economic value. Guotai Junan also stated that in the next five years, 10%-30% of image content will be generated by AI, leading to a market scale of over 60 billion.
AIGC Will Be a Productivity Tool in the Web3 Era
From the “read-only” model of Web 1.0, which focused on one-way information transmission, to the “interactive” model of Web 2.0, where people communicate with each other through the internet, the demand for content is constantly increasing. To meet this demand, content generation has evolved from single PGC to UGC, which now occupies the major market. Platforms like Youtube, Instagram, Douyin, Kuaishou, and Bilibili have a large amount of content created by UGC creators.
As we enter the Web 3.0 era, the construction of artificial intelligence, related data, and semantic networks forms a new link between people and the internet. The demand for content consumption is rapidly growing, and content generation methods like UGC and PGC will struggle to match the expanding need.
AIGC will be a new solution for content generation in the metaverse. AIGC generation utilizes artificial intelligence to learn knowledge graphs and automatically generate content, providing assistance to humans in content creation or completely generating content by AI. This not only helps improve the efficiency of content generation but also enhances the diversity of content.
