Computer Vision
Computer Vision is an important branch of artificial intelligence that focuses on enabling computers and systems to extract meaningful information from visual inputs such as images and videos, and to make decisions or provide suggestions based on that information. Especially with the development of deep learning technologies, convolutional neural networks and other deep neural networks capable of automatically extracting complex features from images have become core tools in this field. The Visualization Computing track is aimed at AI/ML, graphics, and systems that provide students with the background needed to master the fundamental techniques of visualization computing and develop new visualization computing technologies and applications. Given the deep connections between visualization computing applications, modern AI/ML, advanced computer systems, and detailed modeling of the physical world, the visualization computing track offers students the opportunity to develop a strong foundation in any of these areas.

At MBZUAI, the Computer Vision program focuses on how to use automatic understanding and interpretation of visual images. It aims to mimic the astonishing capabilities of the human visual cortex using machine vision algorithms. It studies how to create images, geometric shapes of the 3D world, and advanced tasks such as object recognition, object detection and tracking, image segmentation, and action recognition. Computer vision has important applications in augmented virtual reality, autonomous vehicles, service robots, biometrics and forensics, remote sensing, and security and surveillance.
