In the context of globalization and information technology, the protection, inheritance, and innovative transformation of traditional culture face unprecedented challenges and opportunities.
The reports of the 19th and 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China successively proposed policies to promote the “creative transformation and innovative development of excellent traditional Chinese culture” and to “implement the national cultural digitalization strategy,” pushing for the digital transformation of traditional culture. The core values of traditional culture need to be combined with modern technology to realize their continuation and innovation in contemporary society.
The application of Artificial Intelligence Generated Content (AIGC) technology brings new possibilities to this field, as it can automatically generate images, text, audio, and other content. By integrating with traditional culture, it presents traditional culture in more vivid and diverse forms, further promoting its innovative transformation.

Traditional cultural patterns and designs in China, such as cloud patterns and dragon-phoenix patterns, carry rich cultural connotations. By leveraging AIGC’s deep learning technology, it automatically analyzes and extracts core elements from traditional culture, merging them with modern design concepts to create works with high creativity and cultural significance. This technology not only improves design efficiency but also breathes new life into traditional culture in a modern context.
For example, the “Smart Peking Opera Face” project developed in collaboration between Huawei and the Central Academy of Fine Arts utilizes Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) technology within AIGC to generate a large number of unique Peking opera face designs. This technology learns from a vast number of traditional Peking opera face patterns, extracts core elements from them, and combines modern aesthetics and design concepts to create new face styles. These new faces are not only used in stage performances and film productions but are also widely applied in trendy clothing, digital media, and artistic installations.
This project not only revitalizes the traditional art form of Peking opera but also demonstrates the tremendous potential of AIGC in the innovation and promotion of traditional culture.

AIGC technology provides a new pathway for the design of cultural and creative products, integrating the unique genes of cultural symbols into modern design through deep learning and image recognition technology, achieving efficient and creative product design. This not only enhances design efficiency but also endows traditional cultural symbols with new vitality, making them more modern and marketable.
Through Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN), designers can quickly generate diverse design proposals, thereby promoting innovation in cultural and creative products to meet the dual demands of contemporary markets for culture and personalization.
In the Shanghai Yuyuan “Jiangnan Garden” themed cultural and creative product design, the design team utilized AIGC’s deep learning and image recognition technology to extract cultural elements from Yuyuan’s architecture, carvings, and flowers, and through algorithmic analysis of image data, automatically extract representative traditional patterns and design elements. Subsequently, they used Generative Adversarial Networks (GAN) to generate various design proposals, merging traditional elements with modern design to ensure that products both have cultural significance and meet modern aesthetics.

These elements were ultimately applied to the development of cultural and creative products such as silk scarves and ceramic cups. This series of products has achieved great success in the market, especially among young consumers. This case fully demonstrates the important role of AIGC-assisted design in cultural and creative product design, as it not only accelerates the design process but also provides innovative pathways for the modernization of traditional cultural symbols.

AIGC technology plays an increasingly important role in the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage. By learning from a large amount of historical literature, images, and audio data, AIGC can automatically generate digital content related to cultural heritage, such as restoring images of ancient artifacts, reconstructing lost historical buildings, and even reviving lost traditional skills.

It not only helps to compensate for the lack of human and technical resources but also creates a new way for the protection of cultural heritage, allowing these precious cultural heritages to be passed down and spread more widely in the digital age.
One noteworthy case is the “Digital Reconstruction Project of Pompeii.” The ancient city of Pompeii was buried due to a volcanic eruption, and its buildings, artworks, and daily life scenes were severely damaged in the disaster.

▲Ruins of Pompeii
To restore and showcase these historical heritages, researchers applied computer vision and three-dimensional reconstruction technology to automatically generate three-dimensional digital models of Pompeii. Computer vision technology analyzes images and data from the ruins, identifying and extracting architectural details and artistic elements; three-dimensional reconstruction technology integrates this information to create detailed three-dimensional models. These models not only showcase the architectural style of the ancient city but also recreate the streets, markets, and family life scenes of that time, providing viewers with an immersive experience.

This digital reconstruction project not only provides valuable resources for academic research and public education but also showcases innovative methods for the protection of cultural heritage on a global scale. The application of these technologies successfully combines historical cultural heritage with modern technology, promoting the protection and inheritance of cultural heritage.

In the future, as the capabilities of AI semantic analysis and image processing continue to advance, AIGC technology is expected to play a role in more segmented fields. At the same time, the application of AIGC technology will drive the deep integration of traditional culture and modern technology, promoting continuous development in cultural innovation.
However, in the process of applying technology, it is also necessary to pay attention tothe respect and protection of culture, ensuring that the core values of traditional culture are not diluted or lost in innovation.
AIGC technology injects new vitality into the innovative design of traditional culture, demonstrating broad application prospects in extracting and reconstructing traditional elements, designing cultural creative products, and protecting and inheriting cultural heritage.
How to achieve breaking the circle, inheritance, and development of traditional culture under the impact of the AI intelligent wave is an urgent issue we need to solve and actively face. Reasonable and effective use of AI tools will help us explore new pathways for the creative transformation, inheritance, and utilization of traditional culture.
