My Views on Generative AI: Beyond the Garbage Output

In the current context where generative AI is widely used for creating marketing copy, daily reports, and even “fast food” content, many people believe that the development of AI seems to have entered a bottleneck period. However, the author of this article holds a different opinion. Let’s take a look at this article.

———— / BEGIN / ————

First, let me throw out my conclusion: my view on the future development of AI is that while everyone currently feels that generative AI seems to have transitioned from a rapid explosion to a bubble burst period.

However, I do not agree with this viewpoint.

If everyone merely fantasizes about the future development of generative AI based on its current application scenarios, then the future is undoubtedly very bleak.

Why do I say this? Let’s take a look at what the main applications of generative AI are now.

Writing marketing copy, drafting boring but necessary daily and weekly reports, and producing some fast-food garbage articles to trick people into clicking.

If the application prospects of generative AI are limited to this, then the future of AI is indeed very sad!

I would like to ask today’s AI companies to broaden their horizons a bit:

The greatest role of true generative AI lies in creation; it can satisfy people’s infinite exploration of imaginative space.

For example, when you read novels, you will often find some aspects you are not satisfied with, because a thousand people will have a thousand Hamlets, and each person may like a certain protagonist or supporting character more or less.

But have you ever thought that one day this novel could develop entirely according to your preferences? For instance, in the novel “Harry Potter,” there may be someone who really likes the villain Malfoy, but is it possible for Malfoy to become the protagonist? If we let J.K. Rowling continue writing, he will never become a protagonist in his lifetime.

But with the help of generative AI, if it learns J.K. Rowling’s writing style and writes a fanfiction with Malfoy as the main character, wouldn’t that quickly satisfy your imagination?

There are many similar examples. For instance, when watching some TV shows, we can see that generative AI can not only generate images and text but also videos.

In the future, when we watch movies, if we encounter a regrettable scene, we can directly let generative AI create a more satisfying ending based on our preferences and imagination.

For example, a originally pessimistic ending could be transformed into a happy ending or a family reunion ending based on my request. This is entirely feasible, right?

This is the true meaning of generative AI—it can satisfy everyone’s inner “Hamlet”.

Imagine, a thousand people can have a thousand different “Hamlets” and a thousand stories and endings about “Hamlet”. This was previously impossible with just the efforts of one author. This phenomenon exists not only in the arts or cultural consumption but actually limits all content in our lives due to insufficient productivity.

For example, why can we only choose a few colors of mobile phones? This is due to insufficient productivity and high production costs. If in the future, robots driven by generative AI can drastically reduce production costs on a large scale, our phones could be all sorts of strange and customized in various styles according to personal preferences.

This is the true role of generative AI—to multiply productivity, even by hundreds or thousands of times, allowing everyone to get what they want.

Moreover, for us internet product managers, the original approach to developing an app was to analyze data and find that 80% of users prefer the path from A to B, so the final product is designed according to this path.

This is because R&D resources are limited, and team sizes are limited, so we can only meet the needs of the majority to ensure the effectiveness of resource investment. However, if you think about it, with generative AI writing code, automation generation becomes easy, right? This way, everyone can have what they want.

For instance, some users may prefer to navigate from A to C, or they may dislike page B and prefer a new page. With AI, we can even program in real-time, allowing each user to customize their own applications and services based on their preferences.

This way, we can meet everyone’s preferences. The 20% of users we previously overlooked may become our new user base to tap into and even a new source of revenue growth. I want to say this is the true application direction of generative AI.

Furthermore, generative AI will not lead to unemployment; rather, it will create more opportunities for the future. If AI can satisfy everyone’s personal dreams, ideas, and preferences, then our job positions will continue to increase. Because the people originally engaged in these jobs may turn to manage these AIs, and we may even hope for more powerful AIs to emerge.

Because our business goal becomes to satisfy the imaginative world of all humanity, and human imagination is limitless.

That’s all for my views on the future of generative AI!
